The Story of Moonflick

I have loved dogs as long as i can remember. When I was six we finally got a dog- a longhaired red dachshund called Pipi. A stubborn girl but we still taught her tricks and things. Sadly in 2022 we had to say goodbye to our stubborn girl.  As I got older I became more and more interested in dog training and specifically agility. In 2018 my mom got herself a russian hunting spaniel Sissi. She was to be my moms hiking companion but it also meant that I could finally start with agility. Sissi is a sweet dog but she never really loved agility. In 2020 the pandemic hit and life was turned upside down.

Flicka

When pandemic hit everything changed. And somehow it led to Flicka...

After doing agility with Sissi, i researched different breeds that would be suitable for agility. I discovered the perfect breed- Shetland sheepdog. Not too big, not too small. Beautiful and agile and very smart. The perfect dog. I didn`t plan to take a dog for another few years but pandemic changed everything and in April I wrote to 2 sheltie breeders in Estonia- White Coastal & Mershely. I wanted a female puppy and both had litters coming in june, so i had to wait and see who was born. In June in White Coastal a big litter was born but  only two females and at the time i was told to wait and see until they got older. Unknown to me at the time, 3 days later a singelton puppy-a little blue merle miracle was born in kennel Mershely. On 23rd of June Mershely kennel wrote to me, asking if i wanted to be the owner of this little miracle. As soon as i saw the picture, i knew that she was perfect. And as time went on, more and more it was proved to me that she was meant to be mine. A little miracle. Perfectly imperfect. The breeder told me a puppy with an attitude she had never seen before. She was officially named Little Fleur- A little flower. I was also named after a flower. She was from an F-litter and somehow before knowing this, i had already decided that her name would be either Flicka or Freya. I finally got to meet this perfect girl when she was six weeks old & take her home at nine weeks old. She is a feisty amazing girl. We finished puppy school. At 5 months old started agility basics. When she was 1 year old i decided to just got to one dog show but somehow we ended up with summer full of dog shows. Oops.. But she only needed 3 dog shows before coming Estonian Junior Champion. When she got 2 years old, she quickly earned also the Estonian Champion title. In 2021 Flicka got all necessary health tests and was proven to be healthy. In start of 2022 we started A0- unofficial agility class. End of 2022 moved on to A1- official agility. Flicka is such a perfect dog- she got the looks and the brains :)

Moonflick

Flicka is my first dog so we just looked at where the road would take us. With learning more and more about shelties. Going to dog shows. Getting Flicka health tested and etc. I started dreaming of one day owning my own kennel. So i focused more on learning about shelties & breeding. Before you can get a kennel name in Estonia, you have to successfully finish a breeders course. In 2022 august i started with the course, successfully finished it some months later. Then i had to think of a kennel name. Thinking of one that would feel right and not already exist turned out to be quite hard. But i finally landed on Moonflick. I have always been obsessed with moon and wolves. So there comes the first half Moon. Coincidentally it is also my name Moona- i was named after poppy flower which in estonian is Moon. Second half of the name came from Flicka. She is my first dog and has given me sooo much and has been a part of so many firsts that it think this honour belongs to her. So Moonflick it is. In December 2022 FCI officially accepted and registered kennel Moonflick, breeder Moona Õunmaa.
